Spider Web Hunt Walk with Kids

spider theme
Not being spider experts, we think this is a grass spider that has made a funnel web.

We did a web hunt walk on the way to school today.  It seems easier to spot some of these webs while the dew is still present.  We were even able to find some of the spiders that owned the web.

We read the book Spinning Spiders by Melvin Berger before heading out on our walk. It's one of books in the Let's Read and Find Out Science series and is easy enough for preschoolers to understand and enjoy.

We checked in on our favorite orb weaver, Peter Parker...who really should have been named Charlotte since this is a female spider.  This picture doesn't do her beautiful web justice.

The little yellow dot is actually a spider that rolled up when it spotted us.  We're not sure if we interrupted its web making or it the few strands were its web.
