How to Make a 3D Paper Heart Valentine Holder

This is not my idea, but it I thought it was too cute not to share.  I helped in the kindergarten classes yesterday at school and they were making these cute 3D paper valentine holders.

The pictures go in order from left to right, top to bottom.

1.  Start by folding the bottom side up to the top, leaving about an inch at the top.  Turn, and repeat on the other side.  This will create the bottom or pocket of the holder.

2.  Next, fold lengthwise.  Open and cut down the center to the folds you just made in step 1.

3.  Fold the paper back in half lengthwise.  It's time to make the rounded part of the heart.  I needed a template for this step.  So, I made a paper heart the "old fashion" way by folding a piece of paper in half and cutting half a heart out, so when you open it, it makes a heart.

4.  Keep your heart template folded in half and position it at one end of your paper.  Cut only the rounded portion out of your valentine holder paper.  Repeat at the other end.  When you finish you will have an oblong shaped piece of paper.

5.  Open the paper.  Bring the ends (what I've labeled 1 and 2 in the last picture) up to the center and cross one over the other, tape in place.  It should look like a heart.  Repeat on the other side.  You should now have a 3D heart.

6.  Cut a long strip of paper and attached to the sides to make a handle for your heart.

We're wrapping Lindt truffles in tissue paper and stuffing them in these hearts to give to the kids' teachers for Valentine's Day.  If you make these for a valentine exchange, I suggest using large sheets of construction paper as these from card stock are probably too small.
