Welcome to the After School Link Up
We joined with Growing Book by Book and over 50 other bloggers in doing a collaborative project of the 50 states called "Booking Across the USA" this past week. Our chosen state was Alaska. We have spent the week learning more about Alaska and doing various related projects.
One of the books we read was The Salmon Princess an Alaskan Cinderella Story by Mindy Dwyer. It's a bit long for the preschool crowd, but my kids enjoyed it just the same. I found a printable salmon life cycle from Education.com that the kids colored and we talked about.
We made baked salmon for dinner one night and the kids helped. 2/3 of my kids like baked salmon, one will eat smoked salmon like no tomorrow. The kicker is the one that doesn't like baked salmon can eat their weight in salmon roe sushi (ikura), go figure.
Little J is working on finding the answers to some questions I gave him about Alaska. He found most of the answers at Enchanted Learning. When he finished, he cut out his paper and put it on the poster the kids have been working on all week. We are still working on an Alaskan tundra diorama, but that seems to be coming along slowly.
