Tomorrow is National Ice Cream Day. It sounds like a fun day to celebrate doesn't it! Sassyfras made some wonderful chocolate ice cream for us. It's a simple recipe, but oh so good!
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups of whole milk
3 cups of heavy cream
1 can of Hershey Syrup
1 teaspoon of vanilla
a dash of salt
Sassyfras poured her ingredients in a large bowl and stirred until all the syrup was mixed into the cream. Then, I helped her pour it into our ice cream maker and started it. It's that simple and it was so good!
Last year, we did a traveling story hour with the book "The Ice Cream King" by Steve Metzger. We made some fun ice cream flavored play doughs and did a little craft...all at a favorite ice cream store. You can read our full post here.
Have fun celebrating tomorrow!

I love how simple this recipe is - must taste wonderful, too!
We made chocolate ice cream in a bag - doesn't look quite as beautiful as yours, though :)
The traveling story hour is such a fun idea! I'm sharing my favorite vanilla ice cream recipe today and later in the week sharing about making ice cream in a bag with the kids. It was fun and surprisingly easy! Here's my vanilla ice cream recipe: http://www.morethanmundane.com/2012/07/15/its-national-ice-cream-day-and-my-simple-creamy-vanilla-ice-cream-recipe/
Making ice cream is so much fun and totally delicious! We just had some fresh churned at our family reunion today.
National ice cream day does call for a special celebration! It's nice that you have an icecream maker - it makes homemade icecream much easier to make!
I really should have been all over the National ice cream day...since it is my favorite food!! But I missed it! :(
Thanks for sharing the recipe!
