The Kids Cook Monday, Shrimp Boil

This is a recipe that our family loves.  It is a very easy and fun meal for the kids to help prepare and just needs an adult to complete the boiling part.
Seasoning Ingredients:
1 Lemon
1 Tablespoon of celery seed
1 Tablespoon of chopped garlic or a couple of peeled cloves
6 Bay leaves
1 Teaspoon of mustard powder
1 Teaspoon of paprika
1 Teaspoon of peppercorns
1 Onion quartered or 1/2 cup of chopped onion (Our Target carries frozen chopped onion and that is what we used tonight).

Main stay ingredients:
2 pounds uncooked, unpeeled shrimp
New potatoes- enough to feed your family (we only had russets, they were ok, but not as good as new potatoes)
Corn on the cob- enough to feed your family
Andouille sausage (We didn't have any to use tonight.  Also, this sausage seems to make it a little spicier and my kids don't care for it.)

Fill a large pot with water.

Cut a lemon in half.

Squeeze its juice into the water and throw it in after.

Add the rest of your ingredients.

You don't really need to be too accurate with measurements in this recipe, thank goodness!

After Little J had the seasoning mixed together, I put the pot on the stove and brought it to a boil.  I added the potatoes and let them cook for a few minutes and then added the corn on the cob and continued to boil for about 7 more minutes before finally adding the shrimp.  Once everything was cooked I scooped it out onto a big platter. 

In the meantime, Little J made some cocktail sauce- a bowl of ketchup, fresh lemon juice, and horseradish to taste. 

We've been enjoying our "The Kids Cook Mondays".  Little J enjoys helping and Juiciness and Sassyfras help with setting the table and some light clean up.  Little J and I are starting to assemble a little cookbook for him to have, complete with recipes and pictures of him cooking.
