Muffin Tin Monday

Muffin Tin Monday is sponsored by Michelle at Muffin Tin Mom.  We didn't do any particular theme this week.  Little J has been cooking with me since he was about two.  Until recently, I haven't been brave enough to let him help when the stove was involved.  We've discussed rules and what to do if there is an accident when he is cooking.  We started with the electric skillet.  Today he made grilled cheese sandwiches for our lunch.  They were great!

Grilled cheese sandwich cut into triangles, apple juice, strawbeerry slices, pretzels,  and yogurt.

Maybe I should let mine try making grilled cheese. I think starting with an electric skillet sounds like the way to go.

Hi Kelly,

That’s so smart of you to have established rules of what to do in the case of a cooking accident! It’s also great that you’re letting him get more involved as he gets older, especially since cooking with your kids is a great way to spend time with them and to reinforce important skills, such as motor skills, following instructions, and portion control. I work for The Kids Cook Monday, a new program started by the Healthy Monday Campaigns that aims to get families to cook and eat together each Monday to encourage healthy eating. You should check out The Kids Cook Monday website ( for great recipes appropriate for kids at different age groups. There are also other benefits for kids who eat family dinners, such as better grades, better communication skills, and less of a chance of obesity. To learn more about why family dinners are so beneficial to a child’s development, check out the website!

We’re also looking for people to be a part of the program by cooking meals together each Monday and sharing their experiences on their blog. If you’re interested in getting involved, email me at
