Bird Seed Treat

This project was fun, but a little stressful with 2 two year olds. I waited until Little J was home from school and had him do it first, just to test the waters.

Use a cookie cutter to make a cute shape.
Spread peanut butter all over the bread.
Spoon some birdseed on it and pressed it down.
Using a skewer, make a hole to string a ribbon.

I removed the peanut butter and seed from the tray when J&S did this project. We did one step at a time. Fortunately, we used fresh bread because before I could help Juiciness he ate his slice and had to get another one.

You can see that she spooned more on the tray than the bread. FYI, watch them to make sure they don't try to eat the seed.

We let them harden for the afternoon and then hung them outside.

So, these are my tips if you are doing this project with toddlers.

  1. Do this project outside if you can.
  2. Use trays of some sort to catch the seed.
  3. Keep a wet towel handy.
  4. Place only one step at a time on the tray.
  5. Watch them closely so they don't eat the seed.

Have fun! We got snow this weekend and I've already seen a few birds flying to these this morning. Thanks for stopping by!
